Juror: Robert Green, Chair and Professor of Art, Department of Art and Design, Abilene Christian University
Juror’s Statement: Thanks for this introduction to the arts community of Midland and its neighbors in the region who contributed work to this show. The artworks of this year’s competition demonstrated breadth, quality, and variety. Conceptually and technically skillful works existed in each category in a range of modes from representational to abstract. Those facts made my role as a judge pleasurable and challenging. There were often just nuances between one work and the next that determined best-of-show, first, second, and third-place awards. One thing is clear to me, this body of work speaks highly of the vibrancy of the local art scene and the talented artists that invigorate it. For those curious about my background, I am a painter, ceramicist, and longtime art educator at Abilene Christian University. I also have something in common with each of the entrants: I have had works rejected, accepted, and awarded at competitions like this one. I encourage you not to be deterred by any of those outcomes.
Here is the list our Fall 2024 superstars: Forty-nine artists brought in 127 works, and 77 were accepted to be displayed
