Each year, MAA presents two juried exhibitions—our Spring Show in collaboration with the Museum of the Southwest and our Fall Show with Midland College—awarding thousands of dollars in cash prizes and showcasing regional talent. With the support of our members and donors, we continue to inspire creativity, encourage artistic growth, and ensure the arts remain a vital part of life in Midland.

Laura Romer Huckaby

2026 Spring Juror

Juror: Laura Romer Huckaby
Laura Romer Huckaby is the Curator at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, where she oversees exhibitions and manages the museum’s internationally recognized collections of ceramic art, Spanish colonial art, Texas art, and manufactured glass. Originally from Burlington, North Carolina, near the pottery hub of Seagrove, she earned a B.S. in Art Education from Appalachian State University and an M.A. in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

With a passion for both art and languages, Laura pursued graduate studies in linguistics and anthropology before serving as a missionary in Papua New Guinea with Wycliffe Bible Translators. She returned to the U.S. in 2009, married Fort Worth native David Huckaby, and moved to San Angelo, where David is a Professor of Mathematics at Angelo State University. Laura has been with the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts since 2012, bringing her expertise and vision to each exhibition she curates.
